The study also found protective effects on the placenta and brain in stressed rats where estrogen signalling was disrupted.

A comprehensive 2024 review published in the Journal of Food Biochemistry analysed moringa’s effect on reproductive hormones across multiple studies. The findings were dose-dependent and sex-specific. In females, moringa reduced serum levels of LH, FSH, and estrogen in some studies. In males, there was an increase in FSH, LH, and testosterone. This suggests moringa’s hormonal action works differently depending on the existing hormonal environment, which is characteristic of adaptogenic and SERM-like behaviour.

A 2025 study published in Edubiotik profiled the flavonoid bioactive compounds in moringa leaves as phytoestrogens. It identified five key flavonoids, including rutin, kaempferol, quercetin-3-glucoside, and others. These compounds showed estrogen-like biological activity in female mice, with 17β-estradiol levels rising in treated animals. However, this was a high-dose animal study using concentrated extract, not whole leaf powder at a normal serving size.

What all of this research points to collectively: moringa does not simply raise estrogen. It modulates estrogen receptor activity in a context-dependent way. The effect is different in men versus women. It changes depending on dose. And it differs between concentrated extracts and whole food amounts.

This distinction is worth being very clear about.

What About Almonds?

Almonds contain negligible amounts of phytoestrogens. Their contribution to any hormonal effect in this formula is essentially zero.
